BIOGRAPHY

Tal-i-bah(tal-ee-bah)Riv-ers/ Voc-a-list(voc-uh-list) 1. Expressive, Distinctive voice. Rooted in Jazz/Latin/Blues.

Growing up in East London I was surrounded by the sounds of classic Soul, Reggae and Calypso and I was 'turned' onto Jazz after hearing a 45' record of Billie Holliday singing 'God Bless The Child'.

I was the lead vocalist for the London based band 'Fish Out of Water'. We performed at many venues and music festivals in the UK and Europe and performed on TV and radio. In 1988 we released the album 'Red Sunset' on Stream records.

I took a break to focus on raising a family and to explore other interests such as Art Textiles which I studied at Goldsmiths College in London.

Since my return to music I have worked with a lot of great jazz musicians in London and have performed at many clubs including The Bull's Head and The Vortex. I find interpreting the jazz songbook endlessly fascinating.

I also work with Max Warner, a guitarist, with whom I sing popular jazz standards. We very much enjoy playing at parties and events where we aim to create a relaxed jazzy atmosphere.

In January of last year I launched the first Tuneless Choir in

London for people who feel they can't sing, giving them the opportunity to experience the benefits of singing in a group with no judgement. It's been an enormous amount of fun which has led me to launch another Tuneless Choir in Hackney.

Enjoy my website and do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like me to sing for you,

Thanks

Talibah
